San Luis Obispo County, California (Nipomo, CA) – On April 28, 2025, two people died in a suspected wrong-way, head-on collision involving three vehicles in Nipomo, CA.
For unclear reasons, 70-year-old Contreras was traveling in the northbound lane, directly into the path of the two oncoming vehicles. Contreras and 49-year-old Scruggs collided head-on, causing Contreras’ vehicle to overturn and crash into the third car driven by 63-year-old Delagarza, according to the news release.
Contreras’ vehicle came to rest on its side on the dirt shoulder along the east side of the road, while Scruggs’ car was pushed off the roadway on the opposite side. Delagarza’s vehicle stopped in the northbound lane of Orchard Road.
Contreras and Scruggs suffered fatal injuries in the collision and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP news release.
