Kern County, California (Bakersfield, CA) – A tragic collision north of Bakersfield claimed two lives late Saturday morning when a small car and a semi-truck met at the crossing of Highway 65 and Famoso Road in Bakersfield, CA.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened just before noon on September 20. A 76-year-old man driving a Honda Fit eastbound on Famoso Road failed to stop at the intersection and moved directly into the path of a southbound Freightliner tractor-trailer. The truck struck the car on the driver’s side with devastating force.
Both the man behind the wheel of the Honda and his 66-year-old passenger were killed instantly. Emergency crews pronounced them dead at the scene. The 55-year-old truck driver survived but suffered injuries serious enough to require treatment at Kern Medical Hospital.
Alcohol is alleged to have played a role in this traffic accident. This incident is still being investigated.
