Nevada County, California (CA) – On November 26, 2025, deadly crash shut down a stretch of Highway 20 in Nevada County, CA.
Shortly before 11 a.m. on Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol responded to reports of a head-on collision involving two semitrucks on the section of the highway between Penn Valley and Grass Valley, CHP Officer Sean Armacher told SFGATE. After the initial impact, a Toyota Tacoma traveling in the area also became involved and collided with the wrecked trucks.
Both semitruck drivers died at the scene. The Tacoma’s driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center in Roseville for treatment.
Investigators are still working to determine what led to the crash. According to Caltrans spokesperson John O’Connell, Highway 20 is closed in both directions from Highway 49 to Rough and Ready Highway. The closure is expected to last four to six hours. Motorists can use surrounding country roads as detours while the highway remains shut down.
