Utah County, Utah (Provo, UT) – On December 15, 2025 a fatal vehicle-pedestrian collision near the Frontrunner Station claimed the life of an elderly man in Provo, UT.

The driver involved was taken into custody on suspicion of impaired driving and automobile homicide. Provo police said officers were called to the scene around 6:10 p.m. after an 80-year-old man was struck while crossing the street at 920 South and 100 North. Investigators reported that a westbound pickup truck hit the pedestrian as he attempted to cross the roadway.

The victim was transported in critical condition to Utah Valley Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities identified him as Mario Valer, a resident of Provo. Police stated that the driver of the pickup remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. He was later arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail. The driver was identified as 42-year-old, Jason Philips of Pleasant Grove and faces charges including driving under the influence, a Class B misdemeanor, and automobile homicide, a second-degree felony.

Westbound traffic on 920 South near 100 West was temporarily shut down but has since reopened. The department’s Traffic Accident Team responded to conduct a detailed investigation.
