Fresno County, California (Fresno, CA) – On December 17, 2025, a tragic crash resulted in the deaths of a 28-year-old woman and a 2-year-old child in Fresno, CA.

Investigators said the driver of a Honda Civic was traveling northbound when she failed to stop at the intersection of Jefferson and Walnut avenues near Easton. CHP officials believe excessive speed was a factor when the vehicle entered the intersection and collided with an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe. Authorities reported that the toddler riding in the Honda was partially thrown from the vehicle and was not secured in a car seat. Investigators also indicated that neither the woman nor the child appeared to be wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Two teenage boys, ages 16-year-old and 17-year-old, who were inside the Chevy Tahoe were taken to the hospital with moderate injuries and are expected to recover. California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Salas described the emotional toll such incidents take on first responders and emphasized the importance of proper restraints, especially for children. He urged drivers to always wear seatbelts and ensure young passengers are placed in appropriate car seats. Neighbors near the intersection said they were deeply shaken by the crash. One resident, Aiden Wettlaufer, recalled witnessing the aftermath outside his home and expressed sorrow over seeing the injured child at the scene.

Community members say the area has seen several serious crashes in recent years and are calling for safety improvements at the intersection, including better signage or reflective warnings.
