Ventura County, California (Moorpark, CA) – On February 28, 2026, two women were killed, and three were injured in a head-on crash in Moorpark, CA.
The crash occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday on State Route 23 near Los Angeles Avenue. According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a Chevrolet was speeding along the center median when he lost control of the vehicle, veered into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Lexus sedan. Authorities said the passenger in the Chevrolet was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Lexus also died at the scene. Jay Shields, who witnessed the crash while teaching his son how to drive, described seeing the incident unfold. “I was teaching him to drive when it happened,” Shields said. “Speeding isn’t worth the few seconds you save.” Two other individuals were transported to a hospital with serious injuries, while the Chevrolet driver sustained moderate injuries.
No arrests have been made, and the crash remains under investigation.
