San Bernardino County, California (Rialto, CA) – On April 2, 2022, a police chase in Rialto resulted in the deaths of two people and the arrest of a motorist on murder charges.
Officers say the chase of a gray 2014 Nissan Maxima started in Colton just before 1 a.m., and the Maxima went through Rialto City boundaries when they discovered that the vehicle was driving at a high speed between Linden Avenue and Randal Avenue. During the chase, Maxima crossed a red light at Cedar and Randall avenues, colliding with a silver 2019 Nissan Sentra before crashing into a residence on the 1200 block of West Randall Avenue.
No one inside the residence was injured, but the occupants of the Sentra, 31-year-old Aaron McDonald of Bloomington and 30-year-old Irene Jaramillo of Rialto, were transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, where they succumbed to their injuries. The operator of Maxima, 24-year-old Alejandro Canchola of San Bernardino, and his occupant, 21-year-old Jose Castrocota of San Bernardino, were brought to a nearby hospital with light injuries.
Canchola will be placed in a San Bernardino County jail and charged with murder after he is released from the hospital. He has not yet registered jail records as of Saturday evening.
