Jackson County, Oregon (Ashland, OR) – On January 27, 2022, Jackson County prosecutors charged an Ashland man for an alleged hit-and-run that killed Southern Oregon University wrestler Hunter Roberson.
As per the Ashland Police Department, Elijah Benbow, 22-year-old, is charged with a single felony count of failing to discharge the responsibilities of a driver to wounded victims. It was around 1 a.m. Roberson was discovered on Tolman Creek Road in Ashland Street on August 15, last year. As per Ashland Police, he was hit by a car and died as a result.
According to APD, an assessment into Roberson’s death discovered Benbow was driving the car that struck the SOU student, who fled the scene knowing he’d killed someone. APD stated that the investigation is ongoing since then, with detectives from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Medford Police Department assisting. According to APD, Benbow is not presently in jail and will be arraigned on March 3. On January 27, he was charged.
SOU formally recognized Roberson’s death at the time it occurred but provided no information about how it happened.
