3 Dead and 1 Injured Wednesday Morning on HWY 26
February 11, 2021

Clatsop County, Oregon – On Wednesday, February 10, 2021 just after 10 AM a two-vehicle crash on Hwy 26 near milepost 11 was reported to Oregon State Police.

Oregon State Police have reported that Walter Smith (21) of Pendleton was driving westbound in a Mercedes station wagon when it lost control and slid sideways into the eastbound lanes and collided with a Toyota Tacoma operated by Natalie Swauger (30) of Seaside.

Smith and his passengers – Erick Fadness (20) of Decorah, Iowa and a 16 year old female from Portland, all sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased.

Swauger was transported by air ambulance to a Portland hospital.

Speed is believed to be a contributing factor.

OSP was assisted by the Seaside Fire Department and ODOT.

Baker County, Oregon (OR) - On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, an accident closed the roadway while road crews removed a truck that was carrying a wind turbine tower along I-84 in eastern Oregon, Baker County, OR.

According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, the crash occurred between Baker City and Ontario, near milepost 332. The agency has blocked I-84 eastbound just outside La Grande, and all lanes of the roadway from Exit 304 north of Baker City to Exit 374, three miles west of Ontario.

U.S. 30 is closed to non-local traffic and does not serve as an effective detour route for I-84.

The closures are likely to continue for several hours, according to ODOT. A huge piece of the wind turbine tower looks to be resting on the pavement after crashing through a concrete barrier.
