Riverside County, California (Perris, CA) – On March 16, 2022, a vehicle collided with a building at a middle school in Perris on Wednesday, injuring nine people.
The collision occurred around 1:15 p.m. at Tomas Rivera Middle School, located in the 21600 block of Martin Street, close to Clark Street. Several engine crews and ambulance workers were dispatched to the scene, together with Riverside County sheriff’s deputies and California Highway Patrol officers, and discovered that a red Toyota Corolla had slammed into one of the campus’s buildings, which spans nearly a full city block.
The motorist went off the road and collided with the building. According to investigators, many people got stuck at one point. The incident occurred on an early-release day at the school, therefore no pupils were present at the time. Nine individuals were sent to the hospital with moderate to mild injuries. According to the fire service, the operator, whose name was not revealed, was among the injured. Alcohol and drug impairment did not appear to be a factor in the incident.
Since the collision happened in an unincorporated region, where the CHP has authority in any vehicle event under a long-standing contract with the county, the investigation was handed over to the CHP.
