Los Angeles County, California (Santa Clarita, CA) – On July 2, 2022, a woman and her boyfriend were detained in response to the death of the woman’s 7-year-old daughter, who fell out of a running automobile on the 5 Freeway in Newhall, California.
At approximately 3:40 a.m., Veronda Gladney, a 28-year-old from Lancaster, was traveling northbound on the highway near Weldon Canyon Road. Tanuneka Starnes, her daughter, was thrown out the window of a 1999 Lincoln Navigator, according to the City News Service. Gladney’s boyfriend, Michael Branch, 39-year-old of Hawthorne, was also in the vehicle.
According to the California Highway Patrol, authorities discovered the girl’s corpse after getting a complaint of an unexplained object in the road. It has been hit by many automobiles. The cause of the girl’s fall from the automobile is still being investigated. According to officials, the couple was detained on suspicion of child endangerment. Branch came to court for the first time on Wednesday in San Fernando, where he was accused of misdemeanor child abuse. A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for July 27 in Santa Clarita.
It is unknown if Gladney will face charges from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
