Placer County, California (CA) – On January 28, 2026, a deadly single-vehicle crash resulted in the deaths of two people in Placer County, CA.
According to the California Highway Patrol’s Auburn division, a single vehicle crashed shortly before 2:30 p.m. on the westbound side of Interstate 80 near Weimar Cross Road, located between Colfax and Auburn.
The two occupants of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities described the victims only as a man and a woman, and their identities have not yet been released. It remains unclear whether anyone else was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. CHP urged drivers to slow down, use caution, and expect delays in the area. Caltrans reported that the right westbound lane was blocked.
No estimated time for reopening on the two-lane stretch of freeway.
