San Bernardino County, California (Apple Valley, CA) – On July 2, 2022, at approximately 8:59 p.m., dispatch got a call from a witness reporting the discovery of two unresponsive minors on Stoddard Wells Road, within the Stoddard Wells Off-Highway Vehicle Area.
Officers are looking for a hit-and-run motorist who killed one minor and critically injured another in an off-road vehicle traffic mishap. According to early investigations, the two teenagers were driving a 2019 TaoTao ATV northeast of Stoddard Wells Road. The unidentified motorist was operating an orange Side-by-Side UTV, model year 2019-2022, eastbound on Stoddard Wells Road, east of Central Road. Side-by-side UTV collided with the 2019 TaoTao and two teenage riders.
Despite life-saving attempts, the 12-year-old kid died on the spot after suffering severe injuries. AMR sent an 11-year-old girl to St. Mary’s Hospital and then to Loma Linda University Medical Center for medical care, where she is still in serious condition. As per the authorities multiple CHP and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department employees searched extensively for the Side-by-Side UTV and its operator but were unsuccessful.
The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating the collision and is asking for the public’s help. Anyone with information on this incident can call Officer Cesar Ramos, ID 21878 at the Victorville CHP Area office at (760) 241-1186.
