Salt Lake County, Utah (West Valley City, UT) – On December 28, 2025, a multi-vehicle collision on Bangerter Highway left one person dead and another seriously injured in West Valley City, UT.

Utah Highway Patrol said the crash occurred shortly after 8 p.m. near the intersection of Bangerter Highway and 4100 South. Investigators believe a Hyundai Tucson was traveling at a high rate of speed and weaving through traffic moments before the collision.

According to UHP Cpl. Eddie Wright, the Hyundai, struck several vehicles that were stopped at a red light for reasons that remain unclear. The impact involved a total of six vehicles and caused the Hyundai to catch fire. A driver from one of the other vehicles was able to pull the Hyundai’s sole occupant from the burning car. That driver was transported to a hospital in critical condition and was later identified as 63-year-old Abbie Louise Roderick of Enoch in Iron County. Another motorist, who was driving a Toyota Highlander, had to be extricated from their vehicle and was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. All remaining individuals involved were evaluated by emergency responders at the scene and did not require hospitalization.

Utah Department of Transportation reported that northbound lanes of Bangerter Highway were closed for several hours while crews worked to assist victims and clear debris. Traffic delays stretched as far south as 4700 South.
