Madera County, California (Madera, CA) – On March 14, 2022, the Merced Communication Center (MCC) received an information about a traffic incident on State Route 41, north of Road 406, at 12:30 p.m., with medical personnel arriving.
During a preliminary investigation, it was discovered that a 24-year-old male from Fresno (name placed on hold notification of next of kin by the Madera County Coroner’s Office) was driving a 2002 Toyota Tacoma southbound north of Road 406 reaching a slight right curve in the roadway at an unspecified speed. At the same time, Kimberly Sciaqua was operating a 2016 Nissan Altima northbound on SR-41 at around 55 miles per hour, nearing the Toyota. For an unknown reason, the male driver executed a dangerous turn to the right, allowing the Toyota to slide off the west side of SR-41. The Toyota collided with a dirt/rock embankment and flipped onto its driver’s side. Toyota proceeded south, while the Nissan spun clockwise and jumped into the northbound lane of SR-41, right into the path of the Toyota.
Ms. Sciaqua used the Nissan’s brakes but was unable to avert the collision, and the front of the Nissan collided with the roof of the Toyota. Within the northbound and southbound lanes of SR-41, the Toyota touched down on its right side, facing southwesterly against the front of the Nissan. Nissan came to a stop on its wheels in the northbound lane of SR-41, looking north. The male motorist of the Toyota suffered severe injuries in the incident and was declared dead on the spot by emergency officials. Ms. Sciaqua was not hurt in the incident. As a result of the incident, both lanes of SR-41 were closed, and the road remained stopped for roughly 2 hours for investigation and cleaning.
Alcohol and drugs did not play a role in the incident. Both motorists were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision.
