Stanislaus County, California (Oakdale, CA) – On March 12, 2022, two women from Modesto died in an accident one of them failed to come to a complete stop at a crossroads between Riverbank and Oakdale. Two other people were seriously injured in the three-car crash.
The incident happened around 2:25 p.m. between Patterson and Bentley streets. According to a press statement released Sunday morning, Ruth Rancano, 56-year-old, of Modesto, was driving a 2007 Honda north on Bentley near Patterson Road. Eliseo Zapien, 45-year-old, of Waterford, was driving eastbound on Patterson as he approached the junction in a 2018 Chevrolet. Kellie Content, 31-year-old, of Modesto, was operating a 2017 Volkswagen westbound on Patterson, likewise reaching the crossing. Natalie Camacho, also 31-year-old, from Modesto, was her occupant. Rancano missed a stop at a red light and drove straight into Zapien’s path. Honda’s front end collided with the Chevrolet’s right side, and both cars headed northeast, out of control.
Both vehicles collided with the Volkswagen on both the front and left sides. The Volkswagen flipped, and all three automobiles came to a stop off the road northeast of the crossroads. Both Rancano and Content died on the spot, Rancano was not wearing a seatbelt. Both Zapien and Camacho were transported to Memorial Medical Center.
The investigation is still ongoing, and it is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
