Coos County, Oregon (OR) – On June 5, 2023, at around 6:42 P.M., OSP assisted in a two-car incident on HWY 101 close to milepost 284 in Coos County, OR.
According to the initial investigation, a black Volkswagen Jetta driven by Tomas Iglesias Olivas, 59-year-old of Coos Bay was traveling northbound when it turned across the center line and crashed at an angle with a blue Chevrolet Equinox driven by Jennifer Dawn Jordan, 43-year-old of Langlois. Jetta was approaching a bend when it tried to adjust its route of travel, causing it to deviate into the oncoming lane, according to evidence on the road.
The driver of the Jetta (Olivas) was thrown from the car and declared dead at the scene. Blue Equinox’s driver (Jordan) and passenger, Ethan Blaine Dickenson, 18-year-old of Langlois, were transferred to Bay Area Hospital for treatment of significant injuries.
The Coos County Medical Examiner’s Office, Coos County Sheriff’s Office, Coos Bay Police Department, Southern Oregon Public Safety Chaplains, Sixes River Fire and Rescue, Bandon Fire, and ODOT all supported OSP.
