Yamhill County, Oregon (OR) – On January 13, 2026, a fatal traffic accident caused the death of a resident in Yamhill County, OR.
Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers responded to reports of a serious crash on Highway 154 near milepost 6. According to preliminary findings from the OSP, 35-year-old Marcel Israel Benavides of Dayton was driving a Kia Spectra southbound when his vehicle crossed over the centerline for reasons that are still under investigation. The Kia collided with a northbound International commercial truck and trailer driven by Jose Armando Perez Torres, 26, of Salem.
Emergency responders pronounced Benavides dead at the scene. Perez Torres was reportedly uninjured in the crash. The aftermath of the collision caused significant traffic disruptions, with the highway remaining impacted for approximately four hours while troopers conducted an on-scene investigation and crews cleared the roadway.
Several agencies assisted the Oregon State Police during the incident, including the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), and fire and rescue crews from Dayton, Lafayette, and the McMinnville Fire District.
