Santa Barbara County, California (Goleta, CA) -On Tuesday, October 26, 2021, a fatal car crash took the lives of two people hit by an intoxicated driver on Cathedral Oaks Road.
The incident happened on Tuesday evening at around 7:30 p.m., when the victim’s car rear-ended by a driver under the influence. The 39-year-old man driving his 2002 Mustang together with his occupant was heading eastward along Cathedral Oaks Road when it was slammed by a 2016 Toyota 4-Runner moving towards Santa Barbara in Cathedral Oaks, along Fairview and Patterson. Mustang flipped from the incident, resulting in two parked cars being hit. They shut the road on Cambridge Drive and Kellog Avenue for hours while responders were investigating the area.
The two decedents were Gilberto Arteaga-Gutierrez, 40-year-old and lived in Santa Barbara, and Silvia Velasco of Lompoc, 45-year-old. The operator of the Toyota SUV, Andrew Raymond Burgher, 31-year-old, was detained on charges of murder and driving under the influence with $2 million bail. They brought a small dog in his car to Animal Services unharmed.
The incident is under investigation, which happened in an unincorporated area outside Goleta.
