Coos County, Oregon (OR) – On December 8, 2022, Thursday, a two-vehicle accident transpired on HWY 101, near milepost 259.5 in Coos County, OR.
Initial investigation shows that a red Dodge Caravan driven by Michael John Bevington, 40-year-old, of Coos Bay was heading south on HWY 101, near milepost 259.5, mid-span on the Bullards Bridge over the Coquille River, when another vehicle entered the opposite lane. The caravan crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a northbound blue Ford F-250 Superduty pickup, operated by Waylon James Somers, 39-year-old of Gold Beach.
The Caravan swiveled and became uncontrolled blocking the north side lane and a part of the south lane. The Ford pickup went uncontrollably in the north side lane. Bevington sustained fatal injuries due to the accident. Waylon James Somers and Jordan Paul Green, both 29-years-old, of Gold Beach, occupants of the Ford pickup, were transferred by Ambulance to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
OSP was aided by the Coos County Sheriff’s Department, the Bandon Police Department, the Myrtle Point Police Department, the Coos Bay Police Department, the Bandon Fire Department, Bay Cities Ambulance, the Coos County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Coos County District Attorney’s Office, and ODOT.
