Baker County, Oregon (OR) – On March 12, 2023, an accident between a vehicle and a motorcycle was reported at the I-84 overpass on Highway 203 in Baker County, OR.
The incident took place at 1 in the afternoon according to the Oregon State Police. The vehicle was a 2007 Ford F-350 pickup, driven by 77-year-old Robert Lee Drinkard of Moro, who exited on the I-84 eastbound 298 exit. He entered the intersection at the top of the off-ramp, driving into the path of 27-year-old Ryan James Brecko from Baker City, who was driving a 2020 Harley Davidson. He was heading eastbound on the Highway 203 overpass, and was thrown from his motorcycle and sustained major injuries.
An officer was traveling in front of Brecko and they were able to respond to the crash, activating emergency medical services and providing emergency medical care to the motorcycle driver. Brecko was transported to a nearby hospital but later passed away. Meanwhile, Drinkard, the pickup’s driver, remained on the scene and cooperated with officers and investigators. Findings are ongoing and will be submitted to the DA.
Traffic was impeded for about 4 hours during the investigation. Oregon State Police was assisted by the Baker County Sherriff’s Office, ODOT, and Metro West Ambulance.
