Klamath County, Oregon (OR) – On September 20, 2023, a deadly two-vehicle collision left one individual dead while injuring another on HWY 97 in Milepost 289 in Klamath County, OR.
According to the Police, a preliminary investigation showed that Marci Ann Maples, 51-year-old, was attempting to make a left turn from Keno Worden Road onto Highway 97 while operating a black Jeep Cherokee. OSP claims that Maples crossed the path of a Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Charles Lavern Owens, 55-year-old, traveling south at the time.
According to authorities, despite Owens’ efforts to avoid the collision, Maples struck him on the driver’s side door. Both victims were brought to Sky Lakes Medical Center. Owens suffered minor injuries while Maples was in critical condition and was eventually declared dead.
Highway 97 was closed for two hours as OSP investigated the area.
