Umatilla County (OR) – On September 8, 2023, Oregon State Police responded to a multi-vehicle incident at around 5:04 p.m., on HWY 11 near HWY 332 in Umatilla County, OR.
According to the preliminary investigation, Prithvi Singh, 30-year-old of Milton-Freewater, was driving a Chevrolet Spark when it pulled into the continuous left turn lane after leaving the parking lot. The Acura MDX, driven by Vicki Pearce, a 62-year-old of Walla Walla (WA), impacted the Chevrolet from behind as it continued to travel and entered the northbound lane. An uncontrolled Chevy Spark struck Mary Cowling, 38-year-old of Milton-Freewater, driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee in the southbound lanes.
Singh, the driver of the Chevy Spark, was declared dead on the spot. Pearce, the Acura’s driver, sustained minor wounds. The Jeep Grand Cherokee’s driver (Cowling) and passenger, Milton-Freewater resident Troy Hahn, 38-year-old both suffered minor injuries and were driven by a private vehicle to St. Mary’s Hospital in Walla Walla, Washington. During the on-site investigation, there was a 5.5-hour delay in traffic on the motorway.
The Milton-Freewater Police Department, Milton-Freewater Fire Department, and ODOT all assisted OSP.
