Coos County, Oregon (OR) – On May 23, 2023, at around 12:16 P.M., OSP attended to a two-car on HWY 101, close to milepost 252 in Coos County, OR.
According to earlier reports, Heriberto Morado Ledesma, 35-year-old of Coos Bay was driving a black Nissan Titan north on Highway 101. The Titan was heading a bend when it drifted into the southbound lane (for unexplained reasons) and crashed head-on in a southbound blue Jeep Cherokee operated by Vera Lee Belcher, 76-year-old of Cottage Grove.
The Titan’s three passengers, Ledesma (operator), Hector Mireles Gallo, 35-year-old of Coos Bay, and Alberto Ramirez Vazquez, 40-year-old, were transferred to the hospital by ambulance for treatment and additional medical examination. The Cherokee’s two passengers, Vera Lee Belcher (operator) and Clayton Gene Belcher, 78-year-old of Cottage Grove, were declared dead on the spot.
During the on-scene inquiry, the freeway was closed for around 5 hours. The probe is still ongoing.
