Washington County, Oregon (OR) – On August 15, 2023, the Oregon State Police responded to a multi-vehicle collision at around 12:38 p.m., on HWY 26 near Milepost 52 in Washington County, OR.
According to the first findings of the inquiry, a white Ford F-250 driven by Frederick Henry Kortlever 90-year-old of Astoria was headed east when it veered off the road and collided head-on with a silver GMC Savannah driven by Erez Yair Mayer 50-year-old of Portland, who was going west. The Ford F-250 came to a stop in the westbound lane and was struck from behind by John Larson’s 23-year-old black Honda Civic traveling west.
At the scene, the Ford F-250’s driver (Kortlever) was pronounced dead. Erez Mayer, the driver of the GMC Savannah, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old girl and 15-year-old boy occupants of the GMC were taken with significant injuries to a nearby hospital. Alexander Baumgardt 21-year-old, the passenger, and driver of the Honda Civic, Larson, were allegedly unharmed in the collision. During the on-site inquiry, there was a 5.5-hour delay in traffic on the motorway.
The Banks Fire and Rescue, ODOT, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office all provided assistance to OSP.
