Polk County, OR (OR) – On February 23, 2026, a 68-year-old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Polk County, OR.
Investigators said a westbound school bus turned left into the path of an eastbound Honda Pilot. The two vehicles collided head-on. The driver of the Honda, 68-year-old Luke Richard Brittan of Independence, was pronounced dead at the scene. The bus driver, 33-year-old Chandra Jean Milkovich-Howard of Turner, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. At the time of the crash, the bus was carrying two adults and 30 students. One student was reported to have minor injuries and was also transported to a hospital.
The highway was impacted for about four hours during the investigation. An unsafe left turn was identified as the cause, and the bus driver was cited. The case remains under investigation.
Oregon State Police were assisted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and ODOT.
