Harney County, Oregon (40 Miles West of Burns, OR) – A two-car accident left one dead, one injured and approximately 125 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway and into the ditch of HWY 20.
A Ford F350 pickup driven by Nicholas Fagen (77) of Bend towards Bend (Westbound) towing a 40′ gooseneck trailer loaded with two vehicles. the Ford F350 was disabled and blocked part of the westbound lane of the highway. A Kenworth CMV, operated by Lloyd Theen (69) of Winlock, WA was traveling westbound and struck the trailer forcing the trailer and the truck off the road. Fagen was working under the hood of the truck when it was struck. Fagen sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The passenger of the Ford F350, Danny Reinhard (61) of Bend, sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Theen was not injured in the crash.
Approximately 125 gallons of diesel was spilled onto the roadway and into the ditch of the westbound lane. An environmental contractor responded to the scene for cleanup.
The westbound lane was closed for several hours to complete the investigation and the Haz-Mat cleanup.
