Los Angeles County, California (Carson, CA) – On January 19, 2026, a deadly multi-vehicle collision disrupted travel, leaving at least one person dead and blocking several lanes of traffic in Carson, CA.

The incident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. near the Central Avenue exit. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they encountered a chaotic situation involving a minivan and up to four other vehicles stalled in the traffic lanes. According to reports, several individuals were standing on the freeway itself, desperately attempting to wave down approaching motorists to slow them down and prevent further impacts.

The crash resulted in significant casualties. Responders found one individual trapped inside the minivan, while another person was discovered lying on the roadway. The individual found on the freeway was transported to a local hospital, though their condition remains unknown. The California Highway Patrol later confirmed that at least one person died as a result of the collision.

To manage the scene and allow for an investigation, authorities issued a SigAlert for the westbound 91 Freeway. While video footage from the scene showed at least one lane creeping past the wreckage, multiple lanes were shut down for an extended period. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the CHP.
