Multnomah County, Oregon (Portland, OR) – On Monday, January 17, 2022, all lanes of Interstate 5 were restored following a wrong-way driver colliding with a semi-truck in Terwilliger curves.
According to the officers, they received a call around 3 a.m. about the wrong-way driver in the downtown onramp of South Harbor Drive. Authorities located the car three miles away following the head-on accident with a northbound semi-truck, past the Terwilliger entrance. Officials who were helping with the accident found a Toyota Avalon was the car moving in the wrong direction and inside it were two people pinned. When the two were extracted, they were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. The semi-truck operator was unharmed.
The accident temporarily blocked all northbound lanes of the highway. Around 9 a.m., all lanes of the I-5 were restored. The accused wrong-way driver’s car had been hauled from the site. The semi-truck was removed using a full-size tow vehicle.
The Oregon Department of Transportation and the Portland Police Bureau both went into the incident.
