The northbound lanes of Interstate 5 were blocked for almost 4.5 hours.Marion County, Oregon (OR) – On September 25, 2021, at about 2:50 PM, OSP and emergency services attended a multi-car accident on northbound Interstate 5 around milepost 277.
According to preliminary findings, a Freightliner CMV driven by Long Kim Phan, 57-year-old of Portland was driving northbound when it rear-ended a Subaru wagon driven by Caitlin Dutterer, 37-year-old of Salem, who was moving slowly for busy traffic ahead. A Ford truck driven by Ricardo Guzman-Garcia, 39-year-old of Bend collided with a Honda CRV driven by Anissa Teslow, 36-year-old of Philomath, a Cadillac XTS SUV driven by James Tier, 74-year-old of Redmond, and a Chevrolet Suburban carrying a boat driven by Carl Parker, 53-year-old of Dallas, resulted in a chain reaction accident.
An occupant in the Subaru wagon, Andrew Dutterer, 43-year-old of Salem, suffered critical injuries and succumbed to death. Other motorists and several passengers were sent to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol is alleged to have played a role in this traffic accident. This incident is still being investigated.
