Alameda County, California (Oakland, CA) – On August 28, 2023, an individual was killed after being struck by several automobiles along Interstate Highway 580 West in Oakland, CA.
Around 11:35 p.m., officers received their first call about the collision. A motorist called police to report seeing a man “fly” in front of her car on westbound I-580 close to the Harrison Street exit. According to the CHP, the motorist reportedly informed police that she didn’t think she hit the person, and officers claimed that when they were en route to the scene, several vehicles ran over the victim. At 11:54 p.m., the CHP issued a SigAlert as a result. I-580 westbound at Grand Avenue is being closed. The man was pronounced dead there and then.
According to the CHP, a black sedan with front-end damage had stopped just off the Harrison Street off-framp at the time of the collision, according to Oakland police, and the driver had asked passersby for assistance in jump-starting the vehicle. Police declined to comment on whether the car was somehow involved in the crash.
CHP revokes SigAlert and makes I-580 westbound lanes available.
