Deschutes County, Oregon – One person is dead after his vehicle lost control in the eastbound lanes of HWY 370 sliding sideways into oncoming lanes striking another vehicle.
On Thursday, September 5, 2019 at 6:40 P.M. a Chevy Impala, driven by Matthew Herrera (43) of Prineville, was eastbound at a high rate of speed when he lost control, on a corner, and slid sideways into the westbound lane of HWY 370. The Impala collided with a westbound GMC PU operated by Aaron Ruhl (37) of Prineville.
Herrera sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Ruhl and his passenger, Jessica Heggie (32) of Prineville, were transported to St. Charles of Bend for injuries.
About 31% of all traffic accidents are caused by speed. While all car accidents are serious accidents caused by speeding involve some of the most severe and catastrophic injuries due to the sheer high velocity and impact of these crashes. This one is a prime example especially going faster than the roadway permits. Due to the time of the year ice or snow are not a factor and speed seems to be the only factor. Slowing down and driving to the conditions of the roadway saves lives.
