Riverside County, California (Riverside, CA) – On September 3, 2023, a truck driver was accused of second-degree murder and aggravated assault following a car accident over the Labor Day weekend that killed an individual in Riverside, CA.
At around 3:30 p.m., Karan Singh was allegedly operating a commercial truck on California Avenue heading north. when, on California Avenue and Riverside Drive, he struck three automobiles that were stopped at a red light. Parker Police Chief Mike Bailey stated in a press statement that all of the vehicles continued through the intersection and into the Terrible Herbst gas station’s parking lot after the original crash. The commercial vehicle and one of the other vehicles crashed into the structure before catching fire, and one of the other vehicles hit a boulder before coming to rest on the parking lot top. Bailey stated there was one confirmed fatality in the collision, as “the commercial vehicle also struck a fifth vehicle in the southbound left turn lane.”
Singh fled the site of the crash and was later discovered in a nearby Mexican restaurant. He was arrested at the La Paz County Jail on accusations of second-degree murder and eight counts of aggravated assault after being taken to La Paz Regional Hospital for evaluation. According to Bailey, the accident is thought to have involved intoxication. Bailey stated, “We’d like to thank all the responding services who helped us during this situation. The list goes: “Parker Fire, Town of Parker Public Works, American Medical Response, CRIT PD, CRIT Fire, La Paz County Sheriff’s Office, Buckskin Fire, Arizona Department of Public Safety, Arizona Department of Transportation, Terrible Herbst, and Parker Towing.”
