Riverside County, California (Riverside, CA) – On March 15, 2022, a babysitter and a 2-year-old child were murdered while his 6-year-old sister was injured after they were hit by a car while crossing the street close to an elementary school in Riverside on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in the vicinity of Hayes and Roosevelt streets, close to Liberty Elementary School. The nanny and the two young kids were at a marked crosswalk when they were struck by a blue-colored 2020 Range Rover. The babysitter and the 2-year-old kid were killed on the spot. With minor injuries, the 6-year-old child was sent to the hospital. According to witnesses, the babysitter was able to shove the young girl out of danger.
Based on preliminary investigations, 46-year-old Riverside local was operating the Range Rover westbound on Hayes Street near Roosevelt. As the SUV approached the junction, the three people began walking Roosevelt Street in the official crosswalk. The motorist executed a southbound turn onto Roosevelt and collided with the nanny and two minors who were crossing the street. Before the incident, the motorist, who was cooperating, came to a complete stop at a stop sign.
According to authorities, it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were part of the incident, and the driver helped with the inquiry. The motorist was also not exceeding the speed limit. The victims’ identities were not immediately available. The motorist was not hurt in the accident.
