Jackson County, Oregon (OR) – On November 29, 2022, a vehicle and pedestrian collision occurred on Interstate 5, near milepost 27, in Jackson County, OR.
Initial investigations reveal that Gabriel Escobar, 39-year-old, of Medford, recently escaped from a nearby Fred Meyer after being accused of shoplifting.
Escobar was hit in an attempt to run across the freeway. The collision caused the instant death of Escobar when he was struck by a commercial motor vehicle heading north in a slow lane. The slow lane was blocked for about 3 hours.
The accident is under investigation by the OSP, assisted by the Jackson County STAR Team, Medford PD, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and ODOT.
