Linn County, Oregon, (Albany, OR) – September 9, 2023, at about 9:15 a.m., a 43-year-old male was detained and charged with DUII following a tragic pedestrian vs. car collision in Albany, OR.
According to the police, James Lee Howe, 43-year-old was driving north on Waverly when he veered off the road and drove up and over the right curb. According to authorities, Howe’s white 2009 Toyota Camry drove straight through the crossing and junction of 47th Avenue after striking an 85-year-old man named Percy Kropf. At the time of the collision, Kropf was crossing 47th Avenue while going south on Waverly Drive. According to Albany Police, the Toyota drove through the crossing, struck Kropf, and then slammed into the entrance sign for the Mennonite Village before coming to a stop.
Kropf was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis, where he eventually passed away as a result of the injuries he got in the collision. The Toyota was delivered to the Albany Police Department, where additional evidence will be processed. The Multi-Agency Investigation Team (MAIT) investigated and processed the crash scene while Waverly Drive was closed until 12:25 p.m. There is currently no additional information available as the inquiry is continuing.
