Fresno County, California (Fresno, CA) – The CHP reported a man being struck and subsequently died while walking on Hwy 41.
Authorities said they were notified by 911 at around 5:40 a.m. An automobile struck a man on the freeway. An unidentified man was in the center median on McKinley Avenue. A 25-year-old man was driving a Toyota Scio when the victim crossed the highway.
The motorist couldn’t avoid the pedestrian, who was then hit in the second lane from the left. The pedestrian was declared dead on the spot, and the driver was taken to a nearby hospital for slight injuries. Intoxication was not a factor in the incident, but it is not yet known if the victim was impaired. The reason for the man’s presence on the median is unknown.
After the incident, northbound 41 was closed for hours, causing a mile-long backup that extended back onto Highways 180 and 168.
