San Diego County, California (CA) – On November 23, 2023, on Thanksgiving Day, four people were ejected and died on the state Route 94 just outside of downtown San Diego, CA.
At around 2:24 a.m., the crash happened on eastbound SR-94, near Home Avenue and the transition to the state Route 15. Five people were inside a black BMW M3 as it was leaving downtown. The driver lost control, slammed an embankment, and then repeatedly rolled over. CHP authorities were informed by many witnesses that they thought the automobile could travel at least 100 miles per hour. ABC 10News has confirmed that at least one of the four victims who were thrown onto the interstate lanes was struck by a passing car. Emergency personnel pronounced the four ejected victims dead at the site. A 26-year-old La Mesa male (the driver), a 35-year-old Chula Vista man, a 33-year-old woman, and a 20-year-old National City woman were among the casualties.
The 22-year-old San Marcos resident was taken by ambulance to hospital after suffering minor wounds. The sole person in the vehicle who buckled up at the time of the collision was the survivor, who was seated on the right front passenger side, according to CHP officers who spoke with ABC 10News. Traffic was rerouted onto southbound SR-95 while eastbound SR-94 lanes were closed in the immediate aftermath of the event.
Although the collision investigation is still in its early phases, CHP officers at the site informed ABC 10News they think the accident was probably caused by a DUI.
