Shasta County, California (Cottonwood, CA) – On Thursday, December 7, 2023, following an early morning crash, traffic was affected along Interstate 5 in Cottonwood, CA.
As per the authorities, at Around 5:30 a.m., the incident occurred on I-5 near the Sunset Hills off-ramp north of Red Bluff. According to Cal Fire, they promptly took command and discovered a semi-truck on its side, as well as another vehicle with extensive damage at the top of an embankment. According to the fire station, the “jaws of life” gear was used to extract one individual from the automobile, who was then evacuated by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Dawn Potterton, 59-year-old from Redding, was driving a Hyundai in the number two lane at approximately 23 miles per hour when a truck with a fully loaded trailer moving between 58 and 60 miles per hour rear-ended the Hyundai. Potterton and the semi-driver were both taken to hospital with minor injuries. According to CHP authorities, Potterron was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment. Impairment is being studied as a possible cause of the crash.
The I-5 was closed for a brief period of time as the large rig was removed from the road.
