Los Angeles County, California (Sylmar, CA) – On October 22, 2022, one person was killed and two others wounded after a single-vehicle accident on the 210 Freeway in Sylmar.
The vehicle transverse into a spotted construction zone on the road where it hit a California Department of Transportation forklift that was used before proceeding for another 100 yards, causing it to bang into a concrete barrier and stop. Though barred from traffic pylons, the driver ran across and sideswiped the forklift causing the shearing off of one of the vehicle’s tires. Inside were three men, one of whom died on the spot.
Officials used hydraulic-powered tools to free one of them, while the other was able to get out. Both were transported to nearby hospitals and are expected to survive. Meanwhile, no construction workers were involved. Per CHP, one of the drivers will be charged with suspicion of driving under the influence, as well as investigated for speeding.
Officials released a SigAlert soon after the mishap transpired, redirecting traffic at the scene at Polk Street.
