Fresno County, California (Fresno, CA) – On January 4, 2026, a 58-year-old man lost his life following a multi-vehicle collision caused by wrong-way driving on Highway 99 in Fresno, CA.
Authorities report that dispatchers began receiving emergency calls around 2:00 p.m. regarding a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes near Olive Avenue. Shortly after the initial reports, a crash occurred just south of Clinton Avenue.
Preliminary investigations indicate the man was driving a Ford Ranger in the number one (far-left) lane when he collided head-on with two other vehicles: a Ford Bronco driven by a 24-year-old woman and a Chevrolet Equinox driven by a 63-year-old woman. The impact of the crash left all three vehicles disabled, leaving the two left lanes of the highway open, causing significant traffic delays.
The driver of the Ford Ranger was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The two female drivers involved were also transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries; both are expected to survive. CHP officials stated it is currently unknown if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the incident. The investigation is ongoing.
