Harney County, Oregon – On Tuesday, July 11, 2023, a two-semi-truck accident claimed the lives of 3 individuals on Hwy 20, near milepost 85. Oregon State Police (OSP) swiftly responded to the scene of the accident at approximately 4:53 P.M., initiating a thorough investigation into the tragic incident.
According to the preliminary findings, a 1997 Peterbilt and trailer, operated by Darrell Thew (57) of Montana, was traveling eastbound when, for reasons yet to be determined, it veered across the westbound lane and collided with a 2023 Freightliner and trailer. The Freightliner was being driven by Beth Mckinnon (57) of Orlando, Florida, with her passenger, James Mckinnon (62), also from Orlando. The impact caused both vehicles to come to an uncontrolled rest in the westbound lane.
Tragically, all three individuals involved in the collision were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Our condolences go out to everyone involved in such a tragic accident. From the preliminary investigation, it appears the Mckinnons were not at fault for the accident. It is a tragedy when one life is lost in an accident but for the Mckinnon family to lose two of their family members is truly a tragedy.
