Clatsop County, Oregon (OR) – On Monday, March 27, 2023, a Toyota Corolla driven by 20-year-old Maria Guadalupe Nolazco Luna of Cannon Beach was headed southbound on Highway 101 near Milepost 30 in Clatsop County, OR.
At around 6:47 p.m., she made a left turn on Sunset Boulevard and was struck on the passenger side by 41-year-old Jeffre Cottrell of Rock Springs, Wyoming, who was driving a Dodge Ram 2500 and was going northbound.
Luna reportedly declined medical transport and Cottrell was uninjured. However, a 12-year-old male who was a passenger in the Toyota was transported to a local hospital where he died from injuries. The highway was closed down for four hours following the on-scene investigation, the cause of which is still being reviewed.
The fire departments of Cannon Beach and Seaside assisted OSP along with Cannon Beach Police Department and ODOT.
