Jackson County, California (Lincoln, CA) – On Thursday, January 11, 2024, Oregon State Police responded to a fatal crash on HWY 101, near milepost 163, in Lincoln County, OR.
According to the investigation, at around 5:14 p.m., Casey Rainey Wittmier’s ambulance was responding to a call with emergency lights activated when it attempted to turn southbound onto HWY 101 from a driveway. A northbound Kia Soul driven by Kelsey Rose Seibel, a 25-year-old from Waldport, crashed into the ambulance driver’s side.
The driver of the Kia (Seibel) was declared dead on the spot. A passenger in the Kia, a 16-year-old male, suffered significant injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. Neither occupant of the Kia was properly strapped, and the airbags did not deploy. Both the ambulance driver (Wittmier) and the passenger, Osmo Kalevi Larmi III, a 45-year-old, from Newberg, were unharmed. At the time of the crash, there was no patient in the ambulance.
HWY was closed for around 5 hours. The crash’s cause is still being investigated.
