Tulare County, California (Goshen, CA) – On January 10, 2023, two individuals were killed when a tree fell on the northbound HWY 99 along Betty Drive on ramp near Visalia in Goshen, CA.
Authorities say, both drivers of the motorcycle and a Ford truck killed in the incident that occurred at about 5:56 a.m. According to reports, the tree was struck by lightning and collapsed on top of the vehicle and across travel lanes. The motorbike rider collided with a tree, and the bike burst into flames in the center lane. In addition, three more cars collided with the tree, the center divider, or each other, including a red Toyota Venza SUV. Minor injuries and property damage were confirmed by those drivers. Three lanes of the roadway were closed due to the incident.
CHP officers and Tulare County Fire Department personnel went to the area and reported that the motorbike rider died on the spot. The truck driver was also discovered dead inside the vehicle. Meanwhile, tow trucks arrived to extract the automobiles, and a chainsaw team began cutting up the tree and moving it away from the road.
The case is being investigated.
