San Diego County, California (Vista, CA) – On June 18, 2023, California Highway Patrol stated that two minors were murdered after being hit by a car on state Route 78 in Vista, CA.
The collision occurred at 6:10 p.m., east of Mar Vista, on the eastbound lanes of SR-78. According to the Vista Fire Department, the mother of the kids was pulled over on the highway when baggage fell from the van.
According to VFD, the children stepped out of the automobile to collect the bags, but they were struck by an oncoming automobile. The minors, a 10-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old girl, were occupants in a green GMC Yukon SUV that drew over to the right shoulder, according to CHP officers. The minors were on foot in the eastbound traffic lanes of SR-78 when they were hit by a white Nissan Sentra heading east on the No. 3 lane. Authorities reported that the Sentra’s 41-year-old operator stayed at the site.
According to CHP officers, Sandra Ortiz, 33, of Vista, was detained “for felony charges related to this occurrence, including driving under the influence (DUI), gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and child endangerment.”
