Contra Costa County, California (Crockett, CA) – On March 20, 2022, The California Highway Patrol is looking into a deadly accident that happened at 3:40 a.m. Contra Costa County’s Cummings Skyway and eastbound Interstate 80 were closed on Sunday.
According to the Contra Costa California Highway Patrol, the collision was prompted by a Honda SUV going in the opposite direction. As shown in a Facebook post by the California Highway Patrol, the Honda collided with a Tesla. The Tesla flipped over, trapping the motorist inside. According to reports, the second vehicle was parked on top of the Tesla. Both cars were severely damaged.
Following the incident, a Toyota Camry collided with the automobile. This mishap resulted in a fire. Honda and Tesla’s operators were killed on the spot after suffering severe injuries. Minor injuries were sustained by the Toyota operator. Authorities have not established whether drugs or alcohol were involved. Several fire departments were dispatched to the scene to assist with the collision.
All eastbound lanes were closed for many hours as a result of the incident. At 7:36 a.m., the lanes were restored. Officials are asking anybody who witnessed the crash or the circumstances leading up to it to contact 925-646-4980.
