San Francisco County, California (West Portal, CA) – On March 16, 2024, a woman was arrested for wrong-way driving that killed three in West Portal, CA.
Mary Fong Lau, a 78-year-old of San Francisco was identified by the officials and was detained on suspicion of three charges of criminal vehicular manslaughter, as well as misdemeanor careless driving and traveling in the wrong direction. She was also suspected of speeding, which is an infraction, according to jail records.
Lau is accused of driving her Mercedes SUV onto a sidewalk and into a bus stop at noon on Saturday, striking and killing a child and an adult, who were pronounced dead at the scene. A third victim, a woman, died on Sunday.
A fourth victim, an infant, remained hospitalized on Monday with life-threatening injuries, while Lau also received medical treatment at a hospital.
